Ethel the tortoise dresses like her humans, and enjoys movies! Swipe to see the video!

While we at Bliss appreciate comfort over high style, and even wrote about drinking champagne in our pj’s for NYE, Ethel the tortoise embraces her glamorous side every chance she gets, judging by her instagram feed!

The four-year-old sulcata tortoise often wears matching outfits with her humans, and clearly has a fun sense of humor! She looks like she is thriving on the attention, and feeling fabulous. So we’re taking a page from Ethel’s book and are focusing this week’s moment of bliss on taking time to feel pretty. That might look and feel different for different people, so there is no right or wrong way to do it. For some, it might mean taking a luxurious bath that delights the senses and leaves the skin feeling soft (Ethel would approve, she loves to take baths)… while for others, putting on a fancy outfit and going all out gives a welcome boost to the self-confidence. Putting our best foot forward can allow our outsides to match our insides, and vice versa.

Personally speaking, any time I paint my nails, I feel fancy for several days (until the polish starts chipping). I become more aware of my hands and how my fingers are placed on objects as I interact with them. I don’t indulge very often, in part because years of working in food & beverage got me in the habit of having natural nails, and in part because having to keep my hands still while waiting for the polish to dry is a huge challenge for me. I have no patience in that regard and often end up smudging it. So any time I get it right and can manage to wait, I feel extra glam.

Is it a little silly and small? Definitely. Bordering on frivolous? Definitely. But does it have an impact on me and how I face the world? Definitely. Don’t consider it an indulgence, consider it a bit of self-care. Channel your inner Ethel and let yourself find a way to feel fabulous.
