This week’s Moment of Bliss is a celebration of all things motherhood. There are all types of mothers out there- we aren’t limited to just biological moms, though they are, as a group, pretty wonderful. There are foster moms, adoptive moms, surrogate moms and stand-in moms. Let’s not forget step-moms, and single dads doing double duty, as well as siblings who step in to nurture their younger brothers and sisters, and other family members who do the same.
Some mothers have 9+ months to plan for their babies and some get a phone call that changes their lives. A few even get completely surprised, because bodies are weird, as this woman on a flight to Hawaii recently discovered.
We wanted to share a few stories by foster moms, like this one from Chicago, as well as this one from Iowa. Our goal is to highlight foster parents because the foster system is close to our hearts: we are very fortunate to get to work with several foster support nonprofits, and we feel honored to help them achieve fundraising success.
Recognizing that not everyone is lucky enough to have a mother figure in their lives, we salute those who are left to be a mother to themselves. Our hope is that everyone can find nurture, love and care from someone or something in their life, and can give those gifts back to someone or something.
