Access to clean drinking water is a human right and the dedicated volunteers of the mutual aid group Water Drop LA have made it their mission to ensure that right is respected for the unhoused community of Skid Row.

This month’s Nonprofit Spotlight is a 100% volunteer-run community organization that was started in the summer of 2020. Water Drop LA distributes 2000+ gallons of drinking water each week to the community in Skid Row. On top of that, they partner with a number of other mutual aid groups to fight water insecurity across Southern California.

Every single week, rain or shine, a team of volunteers dedicates their time and energy to assisting their neighbors in having access to water. They also put their resources towards advocacy, pushing local governments to respond to this critical need. When one considers that the entire Southwest is in the precarious situation of running out of water, such efforts might feel like a drop in the bucket. But to the individual who receives the water alongside the notion that someone cares enough, it can feel like finding an oasis in the desert.

We here at Bliss Auctions support the good work shown by these volunteers, and we are inspired to look for opportunities to volunteer in our own neighborhoods.
