Thanks to our work with fundraising for nonprofits, we at Bliss Auctions know first-hand just how many wonderful organizations are out there doing good work in their communities, and we decided we want to give them all a shout-out! To that end, we’re dedicating one of our weekly Moments of Bliss per month to shining a spotlight on the amazing and selfless volunteers and staff of different nonprofits that are changing and impacting lives every day.
We’re starting off with A Sense of Home, a nonprofit dedicated to furnishing the homes of foster youth who have aged out of the system. Through their efforts, over 700 homes have been created, turning empty spaces into the supportive, safe environments that the young people need to transition into adulthood. The difference a real bed can make to a person’s confidence is huge, and the folks at ASOH understand how it’s not about “stuff”: it’s about the stability inherent in having a real sense of home.
Beyond the benefits of the items they are given, the recipients also get to see and experience in a very visceral way that there are people who care about them and their journey. Many of them end up volunteering to help create homes for others, and the cycle of kindness and compassion expands outwards. They felt seen and want to pay that forward.
