One of the youngest-ever TED Talk presenters shares with us how the game of peekaboo can change the world, one child at a time.
7 year old Molly wants to share how important it is to play with children, how dependent their development is on attention and interaction. Actions like mimicking, naming and playing peekaboo helps a baby’s brain learn to trust and to connect with others, which will be crucial to becoming well-adjusted and healthy adults.
She then demonstrates, with help from her neighbor and his son, what happens when adults ignore their child in favor of their devices.
The implications are clear: the first 5 years of a child’s life are extremely important for their development and what happens, or doesn’t happen, during those years will have lasting impact on them. So adult caregivers can give kids the best possible start by engaging with them early and often.
Once again, the science proves that play can save the day.
