This month for our Nonprofit Spotlight, we want to highlight the wonderful work of Elysian Valley Arts Collective, aka EVAC.
The Los Angeles neighborhood of Elysian Valley, known locally as Frogtown, is hemmed in by the 5 freeway to the west and the Los Angeles River to the east. Despite being a very small slice of southern California, this neighborhood is a vibrant creative place with a strong sense of community thanks entirely to the efforts of the folks living and working there.
The nonprofit EVAC was founded in 2008 to support the Frogtown Artwalk and other arts events in the area. Their mission is “dedicated to preserving and promoting an inclusive community along the Los Angeles River consisting of artisans, businesses, community organizations and local residents, in order to cultivate a sense of place, a vibrant local economy and arts education for youth.”
We at Bliss Auctions are big fans of this organization, and in the interests of full disclosure, Bliss co-founder Ruth has been working with them as a consultant of late. We’re having a fun and free community event this weekend to celebrate the opening of the Taylor Yard Bridge, a pedestrian/ bike path that connects Elysian Valley across the river with Cypress Park.
Join us Saturday night for “Illuminate the Night“!
