We at Bliss believe that self-care is vitally important: how can you take care of anyone else if you aren’t taking care of yourself? And self-care can look different to many people: for some it involves indulgence and treats, for others it takes the form of solitude and the space for reflection. Visiting a cat cafe, gardening, reading a book, going for a long drive, taking a nap. Rest and respite seem to be common themes across the board, even for those folks who thrive on activity and exercise. Having the space, time and ability to devote to exercise can feel like an indulgence for someone who is currently too swamped or overwhelmed to have those things.
It may feel selfish to take time for yourself in the name of self-care, but it truly isn’t when balanced with the obligations of everyday life during an unprecedented era (I won’t go into the long list of what makes this moment so unprecedented, because this is meant to be a chill, blissful space. I know you know what I mean). Each of us have a finite amount of energy to give, and whether you see yourself as a well that needs to be refilled or a battery that needs to be recharged, the conclusion is the same: self-care is the opposite of selfish. It’s necessary for fighting the good fight. And since we need everyone to be involved in whatever way they can, we encourage you to take time for yourself, whatever that looks like.
We’d love to know what you decide to do for self-care, so please leave us a comment telling us how you make time for yourself.
