Last year around this time, we wrote about developing a daily gratitude practice for better mental and physical health. This year, we want to focus on the gratitude we feel for all the people and organizations working to make the world a better place, and not just the ones with whom we have partnerships!

When the problems of the world feel overwhelming and too big to tackle, we find it soothing to seek out people who spend their time, energy and resources to addressing an issue, believing that their contribution, any contribution, is worth doing.

Recently, while reading the essay collection “Not Too Late”, about and by climate warriors, this quote launched itself off the page:

“Hope is not like a lottery ticket you can sit on the sofa and clutch, feeling lucky… Hope is an ax you break down doors with in an emergency.”

Rebecca Solnit, Hope in the Dark

Despair is easy because it means there is nothing we can do. Hope is active, hope takes work, and whenever we encounter someone trying to make a positive impact, we see hope in action. We think it’s brave and inspiring and we want to celebrate everyone out there, doing what they can where they are. Whether you impact one person or one creature, or your impact reaches hundreds or thousands, we salute you.
