This week we wanted to focus our attention on a smaller non-profit doing direct action in their community. Solidarity & Snacks helps provide food, supplies and community in a non-judgmental space. They work to give our un-housed friends and neighbors care and compassion in a time and place where community care is often forgotten.

The Bliss team believes in the idea that there are no throw-away people, and that every person has value, regardless of their situation or skills. We all have a right to exist, and to thrive. One of the things we love about mutual aid groups like Solidarity & Snacks is that their volunteers meet folks where they are, with no judgment. People helping people.

The majority of S&S members also happen to be members of IATSE, the international union of entertainment production professional (ie, stagehands, teamsters, film crews, etc). This mutual aid group, using the skills gained from union work, have applied those ideals to community action. S&S has been hard at work since 2020 providing care for protestors and expanding its reach to give weekly support to the un-housed. While a small nonprofit, their impact is felt in the community.

If you’re trying to find a way to positively impact our un-housed friends and neighbors, Solidarity & Snacks is doing the work.
