The United States of America has, since its founding, been an experiment in democracy and the 2020 election will see that experiment tested in new ways. No matter which candidate you plan to vote for, if you plan to vote in-person, you will likely encounter a long line. In fact, lines have been forming every day for weeks by this point. Reports of 10+ hour waits are becoming more and more frequent.
And that’s where Pizza To The Polls comes in. A nonpartisan, nonprofit initiative started in 2016 after the long lines in that election, this org receives donations and uses them to work with local partners to provide snacks and beverages to people waiting in lines at polling sites. They find out where and when the lines are due to crowd-sourced reporting. This year, due to Covid, they are also sending food trucks to polling places in major cities. There’s a list on their website with dates as well.
If you are waiting in a long line to vote, consider reporting it. The food is for anyone there, so you’ll be helping out your fellow citizens as they do their patriotic duty!
And follow them on Instagram to see them in action!
